The true indication was given in
January 1974 in an official note from the Head Office of the Poste Office of Paris:
« The phosphorescent marking of the stamps is realized with vertical bars
/
»
The designation « Bands of Phosphorus » is an error even if it is commonly used in the philatelic books. There isn't phosphorus in these bands.
Many studies were writted by distinguished philatelists by studying the stamps of everyday usage (« Marianne de Cheffer », « Marianne de Béquet », « Sabine de Gandon », ).
The phosphor bands are used now on many printing to commemorate an event or a personality. I offer you a study of the history of stamps with phosphor bands from the beguining to day.
The phosphor bands are in the center of the modern philately, their study is interesting and I was born about the same time.
